Symptoms ​
40% to 90% of people who are infected with HIV experience flu-like symptoms within a month of contracting the virus. These symptoms are refered to as acute retroviral syndrome (ARS).
​However, sometimes the symptoms associated with HIV don't appear for years — even decades — after infection. In the early stages of HIV infection, there are no classifiable symptoms. This is one of the reasons the virus is so dangerous.
