HIV in Poorer Countries

Two-thirds of the 40 million people with HIV/AIDS live in Africa, - that's almost 27 million people - making Africa the epicentre of the HIV disease.

Fighting the HIV/AIDS Pandemic through Education

Currently, there is an association called ‘Develop Africa’ supporting the fight against HIV/AIDS through education activities. It is aimed at the large number of people in the continent who do not know how to protect themselves from HIV. The association is aiming to correct common misconceptions about HIV/AIDS and trying to teach individuals to make informed decisions about their health.

What are the treatments that are currently avaliable to most African communities?

Currently available resources in poorer countries include:

· male and female condom

· voluntary counselling and testing for HIV

· blood supply safety measures (needles)

· prevention of mother-to-child transmission
